Person-Centered Therapy

At Kosel Counselling, we specialize in person-centered therapy, a supportive approach that values your unique experiences and viewpoint. In this talking therapy, you are encouraged to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in a safe and understanding environment with our therapist. Our goal is to help you discover more about yourself, grow personally, and tap into your inner strengths. Through empathy and genuine care from the therapist, we aim to create a space where you feel heard and supported on your journey of self-discovery. Person-centered therapy works because it respects your autonomy, encourages positive change within a collaborative relationship built on trust and understanding.

Complementary Methods and theories

CBT

Sometimes you need a tool or change in thinking to help you challenge and overcome negative thinking patterns. Integrating elements of cognitive behavioural therapy into our practice works well at alleviating emotional distress.

Attachment theory

How we relate to others in key relationships can be down to those foundational attachments we had to our first caregivers. Looking at attachment theory can help us understand our way of relating and make adaptations to break out of unhelpful relationship patterns.

Creative Therapy

There are times when words are not enough to express our emotional distress. Using therapy creatively – through art, poems or written word may feel more powerful to you. Using this form of self-expression can help you notice and make changes to issues in your life.

NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a transformative psychological approach that delves into the deep connections between our mind, language, and behaviours. It’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, helping individuals unlock their full potential by reprogramming their thoughts and actions. Together we can use it as a tool for overcoming fears and achieving life goals.

Difficulties We Can Help With

Anxiety

Living with anxiety can feel overwhelming, as worry and fear impact daily life. Each person’s experience is unique, so personalised treatment options like therapy and medication are important. Taking a person-centered approach means acknowledging individual thoughts and emotions, helping you to understand the causes of anxiety and develop coping strategies that align with personal experiences.

Neurodivergent in a neurotypical world

Navigating a neurotypical world as a neurodivergent individual can present unique challenges in men and women. Misunderstandings and stigma surrounding conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia may lead to difficulties in communication, social interactions, and everyday tasks, impacting on your wellbeing. We can provide the space to reflect on those feelings creating empowerment and autonomy.

Menopause and Peri-Menopause

Thanks to growing public interest in this area, women no longer have to suffer in silence. Sometimes the symptoms of menopause creep up on you… like increased feelings of anxiety and overwhelm that come out of nowhere. Because we understand about the myriad of symptoms and how they can present themselves, we can offer a supportive, non-judgemental place for you to discuss difficulties you may be having as a result of fluctuating hormones.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance

There are many children out there struggling with school and the impact on them is well documented. We also want to open up the space to the parents who have children with EBSA, who just can’t go to school, this can be down to general anxiety or diagnosed/non-diagnosed neurodivergence. We recognise the isolation and stress that parents can often feel – that they may feel they are failing their kids or failing the school system. We offer a non-judgemental space to unpack the complex feelings that arrive in this situation.
